It’s a busy summer filled with arts and festival work for Nova this year.
We are enormously proud to be the official media partner for Bradford Literature Festival (BLF), a huge event featuring more than 500 events and spanning ten days, the BLF is one of the UK’s most diverse festivals with a programme that is not afraid to tackle big political issues head-on.
Nova’s job is to be in as many places as possible throughout the event, interviewing participants and showing the fantastic diversity of language, ideas and people that make this one of the real gems in the North of England’s cultural calendar.
The festival kicked off on Friday June 29, one of the hottest days of the year, and after two full days of shooting from 10am to 10pm, both of Nova’s shooting teams were not only bronzed, but fully versed in Brexit, intersectional feminism, the Gruffalo, the science of penmanship in Islam. We’re nothing if not eclectic at Nova.

Next on the ‘let’s make sure Nova barely get a weekend off during summer’ agenda is Hull Pride – and again, we’re absolutely over-the-moon that Pride chose Nova to document their excellent celebration of freedom. Hull is becoming widely recognised as a city that has an open spirit, an open heart, and an open mind, and at Nova we stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone who is prepared to abandon prejudice and embrace people for simply being themselves.
Moving into a busy August…
Nova are also the official media partner of Humber Street Sesh. Again, we’ll be down there in force on August 3 and 4, capturing the atmosphere in our digital atmosphere recording machines and running between stages to shoot footage of the stunning array of bands that all make Humber Street Sesh such a massive and unique event. Look out for out highlights film during the week after the event.
And there’s more…
On August 11 Dominoes will be the first major event to be produced and promoted by Absolutely Cultured, the company who will be developing and continuing the work of Hull 2017 into the future.
And again, we’re delighted they’ve chosen Nova as the team to document this fantastic participatory spectacle.
Created from thousands of breezeblocks and constructed by over 400 of Hull’s volunteers, Dominoes will weave its way through streets, public squares, civic buildings and private homes, climbing stairs, falling from windows – and at Nova we’ll capture the whole thing (well, most of it).
And finally…
… the event that always feels like the thing Hull has been for all summer – the Freedom Festival. And again, we’re the official media partner. Last year our three shooting teams covered around 34km each over the course of two days and nights of spectacular street theatre, music, dance, talks, street food and the usual array of strange French ladies, Dutchmen and dinosaurs on bikes weaving noodles whilst flying over the city and inciting us all to anarchy. Hoorah!
