At Nova we love working with Hull’s creative community so we were delighted when one of the city’s leading cultural institutions came to us to help mark their 50th birthday.
Founded in the early 1970s by musician and actor Mike Bradwell, Hull Truck is a bastion of the arts in the north of England championing diverse and original theatre.
But Truck’s significance in the local area goes beyond its function as a home to innovative performance, with outreach programmes stretching into the wider community and a mission of inclusivity, “locally rooted, global in outlook, inspiring artists, audiences and communities to reach their greatest potential.”
A focus on the people who make Hull Truck great
Over last year, Nova has worked with the team at Truck to produce a suite of films focusing on the people who make the theatre the inspirational and distinguished creative institution it has become over the last half century.
The Hull Truck at 50 Spotlight series, which includes includes six shorts, features artists, staff, patrons, community workers, youth theatre members and members of the theatre’s Act III group.
Personal, touching and often amusing, the interviews get to the heart of Hull Truck’s importance to the city and its impact of the lives of those who pass through its doors.
Client feedback
Hull Truck’s Laura Smith explains more: “As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, we wanted to create a series of short films to shine a light on all the people who make Hull Truck Theatre such a tremendous place to work and play.
“From dedicated staff to loyal audiences and enthusiastic community partners, each group plays an incredibly important role in making our theatre what it is today.
“Nova Studios were instrumental in bringing our vision for the film series to life, delivering seven films that perfectly tell our story from the perspective of many different valued individuals.
“Their professional yet friendly manner behind the camera immediately put everyone being interviewed in front of the camera at ease.
“The way they edited the films to communicate a streamlined narrative was also very impressive! It’s been a real pleasure working with them – from start to finish.”
