It gives us the chance to tell stories that we care about, often stories that might not otherwise have been heard, an opportunity to work with people who interest us and a way to push and develop our skills.
But we also believe that it brings benefits to the corporate side of the business too – if we continue to hone our visual and editorial storytelling skills then we’ll keep on getting better and better at making the commercial content that pays our wages.

We are currently working on two feature length documentaries…
Currently in production, this one is a biggie… Filmed over the course of 14 years in the UK, Sierra Leone, Sweden and Greece, our film follows the story of the footballer Alhassan ‘Crespo’ Kamara. When we met him in Freetown in 2009, Crespo was a 16 year old kid with a dream. We’ve been with him every step of the way as he signs for top Swedish side AIK, meets the love of his life Pernilla, scores for his country in the AFCON qualifiers against Tunisia, moves to Greek side Panatolaikos, gets injured, marries Pernilla – and so much more. With BAFTA winning director Dan Gordon as our exec producer – all we have to do now is finish it…
From the late 1960s until his death in Hull in 2007, Paul Burwell was an inspirational figure in performance art and improvised music whose work continues to influence artists in the UK and internationally. Often described as a ‘thaumaturge’ or ‘wonder-maker’, Burwell worked on the extreme edges of art, performance and music, always looking for new forms of expression — yet his later years in Hull saw him slip into alcoholism and his death is shrouded in mystery.
Nova’’s film, currently in post-production and funded by the radical arts foundation Future’s Venture, explores Burwells life, death and lasting legacy, telling an important story of British avant garde art and performance in the late 20th Century. Find out more about Future’s Venture here:
At Nova Studios we complement our commercial and client work with pure documentary projects – both shortform and longform.
It gives us the chance to tell stories that we care about, often stories that might not otherwise have been heard, an opportunity to work with people who interest us and a way to push and develop our skills outside of working to a client’s brief.
But we also believe that it brings benefits to the corporate side of the business too – if we continue to hone our visual and editorial storytelling skills then we’ll keep on getting better and better at making the commercial content that pays our wages.
