For nearly ten years Nova Studios have worked regularly in Hull’s twin city of Freetown in Sierra Leone.

We are currently working on two documentary feature projects.

They Call Me Saviour tells the story of our friendship with a young footballer, Alhassan Kamara, and follows him from obscurity in Freetown along the difficult road to becoming his country’s top striker. And there’s a Hull-twist to the story too – but more on that another time.

Send In The Clowns tells true story of the role comedians played in bringing an end to Sierra Leone’s civil war. And when Sierra Leone’s top comedian, Vamboi, decides he wants to build a theatre in Freetown, the University of Hull help him achieve his dream.

Nova Studios has also been instrumental in establishing a thriving group of British Council supported partnerships between schools in Hull and Freetown.
