Sea Of Hull

KCOM Culture The Sea of Hull | Nova Studios | East Yorkshire

In 2016 the New York-based artist Spencer Tunick created the photographic installation artwork ‘Sea of Hull’ featuring over 3000 naked volunteers painted blue and green. It was the big event that focussed the world on Hull’s status as UK City of Culture.

Nova were approved by Spencer Tunick and commissioned by the Ferens Art Gallery and KCOM to produce the official film of this memorable event.

Our brief was to capture the amazing atmosphere and spectacle of this massive event as it happened. With two crews on the ground and drone above, we worked closely with Spencer’s team and the Hull City Council events team. It was important to respect the participants privacy, be sensitive to their wishes and safety whilst filming, and also to make sure we didn’t get in the way of Spencer’s working practice and the practical and safety considerations of the events team.

We’re proud of the results.
