The first months of 2022 saw Nova exploring the region’s coastline as part of a documentary project with the Yorkshire Marine Nature Partnership.
A collaborative body focusing on promoting cohesive action to protect and enhance the region’s coastal environments, the YMNP had tasked us with creating three videos explaining the concept and promoting the benefits of Natural Capital in the context of the Yorkshire coast.
Combining expert interviewees with scripted voice over
At Nova, we have deep commitment to the Yorkshire and Humber region and its environmental sustainability so we were delighted to have the chance to team up with some of the people and groups working to ensure the Yorkshire coast continues to be a place where wildlife thrives and humans can live, work and visit.
The mini-series combines interviews with experts ranging from academics and public servants, conservation workers and local stakeholders with a scripted voiceover carefully crafted during collaborative sessions with Heather Davison – Smith, Development Officer at YMNP.
With the majority of shooting taking place in February and March, the weather was always going to play its part but multiple trips to the region’s many striking coastal locations paid off with interviewees shot on location in front of magnificent sea views and b-roll capturing daily life in towns like Scarborough, Bridlington and Whitby and wildlife in it’s natural habitat.
We’ve loved working with Heather and her colleagues. It’s been great to be able to contribute to an initiative with the local environment at its heart and we hope the films do justice to our amazing coastline.
Igniting important conversations with partners, stakeholders and the wider public
Here’s what Heather had to say about working with Nova:
“The team at Nova Studios have been great to work with over the past few months. The team were always professional, flexible and approachable, helping to shape our loose ideas into fully-formed short films which showcase the best of Yorkshire’s coastal environment – despite our tight timescales and filming delays caused by stormy weather! “
“The quality of the films produced are brilliant and will really help us to ignite some important conversations with partners, stakeholders and the wider public. Thank you, Nova!”
