It’s been a busy year so far at Nova and to help with the extra demand we’ve brought on board a brilliant new trainee shooter/editor.
We’re excited to announce that as of this week, Lydia Shearsmith becomes our newest full time member of staff.
We first encountered Lydia’s energy and talent back in 2021 on the creative digital skills workshops we facilitated for Hull Maritime.
She’d just achieved a first-class degree in photography from the University of Falmouth and joined the project as a visual artist – contributing to a collaborative animation exploring the city’s seafaring past.
A member of the Humber Street’s Juice Studios creative community Lydia’s impressive CV also boasts a recent post working as a lecturer and technician at Hull College and an upcoming photographic exhibition at ArtLink.
An artistic eye and natural ability to master technical skills
The job ad for the trainee videographer/editor role went live back in January.
Rather than scour LinkedIN, we wanted to reach the best emerging talent in the area so we created a film detailing what we were looking for and asked our friends and partners in the city’s creative industries to share our ad.
We were taken aback by the number and quality of the responses we received.
Having asked applicants to focus their responses on their personality, interests and values, Lydia’s passion for creative storytelling, natural ability to master technical skills and artistic eye made her the standout candidate.
“I knew I would be part of an amazing team”
Lydia said: “I am really excited to be a part of the Nova team, seeing projects come to life and engaging with communities.
“Being a photographer, I saw this position at Nova as the perfect opportunity to develop my knowledge of lens based medium into the world of moving images.
“Having witnessed the team at work before applying for the role I knew that I would be part of an amazing team if I was lucky enough to get the role.
“I can’t wait to add another tool to my belt and be a full fledged videographer and editor for Nova.”
Lydia will spend her first few months at Nova shadowing our shooters, mastering the world of Premier Pro and generally learning the Nova way.
You’ll see her out and about on shoots with the team so come over and say hi and, if you get a chance, head over to ArtLink on Princes Avenue (July 7th – September 16th) to see her exhibition ‘The Immensity Of Being’.
